RadiAnt.DICOM.Viewer is a software program for Windows, developed by Jens Dittman, which is used to display and extract information from Radiographs or Digital Radiographs. The RadiAnt software was first released in 2003 and has been actively developed since then. The program is free for academic usage, though a registration fee has to be paid if it is used in any commercial, non-profit or government setting. The software consists of three major components: An extensive list of features can be found on the official website. RadiAnt.DICOM.Viewer is able to display Digital X-Ray images. It also supports reading of existing DICOM files (eXtensible Imaging and Communication in Medicine). Hence, it supports the transfer of information between hospitals without modification or decompression of the original data. This feature helps to reduce transmission time and cost considerably compared to sending RAW data via e-mail like earlier software did (e. g. RadiAnt 3.5). The software can display single images, or turn series of images into a movie. This feature is especially useful to present real-time imaging on an external multi–media projection system during operations, e.g. pre-, intra- and post-operative imaging on the operation table during surgery. The software can be used as a real–time image viewing application or as an offline processing tool that produces quality reports for diagnostic purposes or clinical documentation. RadiAnt supports some limited editing features like cropping, scaling, merging series of DICOM files into one DICOM file for transmission over the network etc. The software is available for free for academic usage on the official website. It can also be purchased in a Retail version with some additional features, such as authoring of Logos, and customisation. There are some limitations when using the software: The following shows a comparison between RadiAnt 3.2 and RadiAnt 4.0 in terms of memory use by the main application components during normal operation:Information about potential problems or limitations can be found on the official website.
